KUALA LUMPUR – It was the end of the road for national men’s singles badminton player Ng Tze Yong at the All England after he was defeated by China’s Li Shi Feng earlier this morning.

Tze Yong lost 21-11, 21-11 at the Utilita Arena.

All eyes were on Tze Yong in this quarterfinal match after his historic win against world number one Viktor Axelsen in the round of 16 yesterday.

In today’s match, Tze Yong looked tired through his movements and it could have been because of his highly intense match against Axelsen yesterday.

Although the world number 28 did fairly well, China’s Shi Feng was unstoppable.

Shi Feng will now play Anders Antonsen in the semifinal after the Denmark player beat Indonesia’s Anthony Sinisuka Ginting 21-14, 9-21, 21-17 in the other quarterfinal match earlier this morning.

Meanwhile, national badminton ace Lee Zii Jia finally found his form as he booked a spot in the semifinal after beating Japan’s Kodai Naroaka last night.

Zii Jia won 21-9, 10-21, 21-13 and will take on China’s Shi Yuqi for a place in the final tomorrow.

Zii Jia and Tze Yong were the only  Malaysian players who qualified for the quarterfinal stage as all other players were sent out in the early rounds of the tournament, including men’s doubles world champions Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik. – The Vibes, March 18, 2023
