KUALA LUMPUR – National badminton ace Lee Zii Jia cruised into the Swiss Open semi-finals after he defeated Taiwan’s Lee Chia Hao 21-12, 21-17 today.

The match was a breeze for Zii Jia as the Kedahan lad destroyed his opponent in 36 minutes at the St. Jakobshalle Arena in Basel.

This was the fourth meeting between the two players, and Zii Jia’s win today has evened the head-to-head score at 2-2.

Their last meeting came earlier this month at the German Open, with Chia Hao ending Zii Jia’s campaign with a 15-21, 22-20, 23-21 win in the second round.

The semi-finals match tomorrow will see Zii Jia equal his best result at the Swiss Open.

He last made an appearance at the tournament in 2021, but lost to Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn 21-18, 21-10 in the semi-finals.

Zii Jia will now play Japan’s Koki Watanabe in the semi-finals tomorrow after the Japanese players won 21-12, 21-15 against Hong Kong’s Lee Cheuk Yiu in the quarterfinals earlier today. – The Vibes, March 24, 2023
