KUALA LUMPUR – Selangor raked up its fourth consecutive Super League win by routing Terengganu 5-1 at the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium last night.

Terengganu tested Selangor’s defence early in the match, but Jordan Mintah’s free kick in the 11th minute unfortunately hit the goalpost. 

Selangor then blazed ahead, scoring two goals in the space of five minutes, the first in the 17th minute by striker Ayron Del Valle and the second in the 21st minute by former Terengganu winger Mohamad Faisal Abdul Halim before ending the first half 3-0 with an opportunistic effort by defender Harith Haiqal Adam Afkar in the 40th minute.

Terengganu managed to slot in their solitary goal of the match in the 61st minute, via a header from substitute Ivan Mamut, but Ayron made it 4-1 in the 70th minute before Aliff Haiqal Lokman Hakim Lau scored Selangor’s fifth goal of the match in the 84th minute.

Selangor is now second with 22 points after nine matches, two points behind league leaders, champions Johor Darul Ta’zim, who will play PDRM FC here tomorrow night. Sri Pahang is currently third with 19 points.

In other matches tonight, Kedah Darul Aman lost 2-3 at home to Kuala Lumpur (KL) City FC at Darul Aman Stadium in Alor Setar. The home team ended the first half leading 2-1, overcoming KL City’s 11th minute goal by Paulo Josua with double strikes from Jonathan Boareto Dos Reis in the 25th minute and Bojan Ciger in the 30th minute.

The second half, however, belonged to KL City as Romel Morales equalised three minutes after the break, while teammate Herlison Caion sealed their victory in the 75th minute.

Penang celebrated their second consecutive win after beating Kelantan United 2-0 at City Stadium George Town, Penang. Nik Akif Syahiran Nik Mat and team captain Rafael Vitor scored Penang’s goals, in the 48th and 58th minute respectively.

Meanwhile, Sri Pahang took home three points after midfielder Muhamad Nor Azam Abdul Azih scored in the 57th minute of their match against Kuching City at State Stadium, Kuching. – Bernama, April 19, 2023
