Nursery worker remanded over death of six-month-old infant in Melaka

A 26-year-old caregiver has been remanded for two days to assist in the investigation into the death of a six-month-old baby boy at a childcare centre in Padang Temu, Melaka.

A FEMALE nursery worker has been remanded for two days by the Ayer Keroh Magistrates’ Court to assist police investigations into the death of a six-month-old baby boy at a childcare centre (TASKA) in Padang Temu.

The remand order was issued by Magistrate N Sivashangari today under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The 26-year-old suspect will be held in custody starting today.

Earlier reports confirmed that the baby was found lifeless, lying face down and swaddled on a mattress at the centre.

Melaka Tengah District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit, said the case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.

Police have not ruled out further action pending the results of the post-mortem and continued inquiry. - July 18, 2025
