MICHAEL Schumacher is the top earner in the world of Formula One with current world champion Lewis Hamilton lagging way behind.
Schumacher is the richest F1 driver with an estimated worth of some US$800 million (RM3.4 billion) with Hamilton in third place with US$285 million. Eddie Jordan is second on US$475 million.
Hamilton will see his earnings rise considerably as he is still very much in the forefront of F1 and recently signed a new deal to continue racing under the Mercedes brand.
This gulf in earning between Schumacher and Hamilton is quite staggering considering that both have won the World Drivers Championship seven times each.
Schumacher who won 91 Grand Prix titles before retiring.
He suffered a serious head injury in a skiing accident in 2013 and his status remains a secret until now.
The 52-year-old German dominated the racing world for a decade with Benetton first and then Ferrari between 1994 and 2004, returning with Mercedes between 2010 and 2012.
Schumacher had admitted that the emergence of Hamilton way back in 2012 had hastened his decision to call time on his career. He has been proven right.
He had stated, “We all know Lewis is one of the best drivers we have around.
“I am sure that he and the team will have a successful future.
“The team had the option in Lewis that helped me decide (to retire).” – Agencies, September 26, 2021
