KUALA LUMPUR – Today, Malaysia celebrates its 64th year of independence.

The theme this year will be the same as last year’s “Malaysia Prihatin”, and the celebration will be held at Dataran Pahlawan Negara, Putrajaya, on a moderate scale due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Although the country has yet to declare “merdeka” from the “invisible enemy”, let us not forget the sacrifices made by our forefathers and leaders to achieve independence.

Despite the exceptional circumstances brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic, the spirit of Merdeka – sharing, caring, and working together – must live on in the hearts and minds of every Malaysian.

Let’s take a trip down memory lane to reminisce about the times when we were in school.

Do you remember participating in the National Day parade in your hometown, and having to practise tirelessly for it? Or belting out patriotic songs and waving the Jalur Gemilang with friends during Merdeka celebrations in school?

Among iconic Merdeka Day songs are Inilah Barisan Kita, Tanggal 31, Warisan, Satu Malaysia, Jalur Gemilang, and Keranamu.
