RUSSIA's overnight drone attack on the Black Sea port city of Odesa damaged residential buildings, warehouses and civilian infrastructure, Ukrainian officials from the region said early on Wednesday.

Reuters reported that: "The enemy has again attacked Odesa with a massive drone attack," Oleh Kiper, governor of the broader Odesa region of which the city of Odesa is the administrative centre, said in a post on Telegram messaging app.

According to preliminary information, there were no injuries, Odesa's mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov said on Telegram. He posted photos of a residential and other buildings nearly destroyed and of a dog peeking from behind a pile of wood.

The full scale of the attack was not clear. Ukraine's air force usually reports data on overnight Russian attacks later in the morning.

Reuters could not independently verify the reports. There was no immediate comment from Russia. Both sides deny targeting civilians in the war that Russia started with its full-scale invasion of Ukraine more than three years ago.

The United States said in late March it had reached separate deals with Ukraine and Russia to pause their attacks over the Black Sea and against each other's energy targets. Both sides have repeatedly accused each other of breaking the moratoriums. – April 16, 2025
