Magnitude-5.1 earthquake strikes off Indonesia’s Sumatra coast

A MODERATE earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale struck off the coast of Indonesia on Tuesday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), as reported by Xinhua.

The tremor occurred at 13:16 GMT and was centred approximately 103 kilometres east-southeast of Teluk Dalam. The USGS placed the depth of the quake at 50.9 kilometres.

The agency initially located the epicentre at latitude 0.38 degrees north and longitude 98.71 degrees east.

Bernama-Xinhua reported no immediate information on damage or casualties. - December 3, 2025
