IRANIAN Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held separate telephone conversations with Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan on developments surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s state television reported on July 28.
During the discussions, the three officials highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation and advancing diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring regional stability and addressing security concerns affecting the strategic waterway.
“They stressed the need to strengthen cooperation and advance joint diplomatic efforts to establish stability in the region and eliminate the insecurity imposed on the Strait of Hormuz due to the aggressive actions of the United States,” state broadcaster IRIB reported.
Iran has maintained control over the Strait of Hormuz since the outbreak of the Middle East conflict on Feb 28, disrupting maritime traffic through one of the world’s most important energy shipping routes.
The strategic passage, located between Iran and Oman, is a key channel for global oil and gas shipments, with prolonged disruptions raising concerns over energy security and regional trade.
AFP cited today that in recent weeks, tensions have widened to involve Saudi Arabia and Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen, further complicating the already fragile security situation in the region.
However, the past several days have seen a reduction in hostilities, with diplomatic contacts continuing as regional powers seek to prevent further escalation. - July 28, 2026
