TOKYO – A snowstorm that has been pummelling 20 Japanese prefectures since the middle of last month has caused ¥2.1 billion (RM81.7 million) in damage, reported the Sputnik news agency.
Agriculture Minister Kotaro Nogami was quoted by the Kyodo news outlet as saying the full scale of the damage has yet to be ascertained.
“Data collection is still difficult in some regions.”
Heavy snow fell in the country’s north and northwest in mid-December, before hitting vast territories along the western coast, as well as customarily snowless southern areas, at the start of the year.
A total of 6,770 farm buildings were either destroyed or damaged, including greenhouses, a warehouse, and livestock and poultry facilities. – Bernama, January 15, 2021
