LOS ANGELES – Five people have died in a hot air balloon accident in Albuquerque, southwestern United States, said the city’s police yesterday.
The accident caused a blackout in the area for several hours after the balloon came into contact with a power line.
“Unfortunately, four individuals died as a result of their wounds from the hot air balloon crash,” tweeted Albuquerque police, adding that one person was taken to hospital in critical condition.
Authorities later said the man died of his injuries.
“Our prayers go out to the friends and family of all five people who tragically lost their lives,” tweeted police.
The incident left some 13,000 people without electricity, said local utility firm PNM.
Power has since been restored to the affected consumers. – AFP, June 27, 2021
