JAKARTA – Health workers in Indonesia will be given a third Covid-19 vaccine shot – Moderna – to further increase their resistance to the virus.
Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin told an online press conference yesterday that the booster shot programme involving 1.47 million healthcare personnel will begin next week.
Health workers were the first group to be vaccinated under the national immunisation drive that began on January 13, getting the Sinovac vaccine.
Local media reported that since the beginning of the pandemic until June 28, a total of 1,031 health workers in the republic died from the coronavirus.
According to data shared by the National Disaster Mitigation Agency on Twitter yesterday, more than 35.7 million people in the country have received their first dose, and over 14.8 million, their second.
New infections have risen sharply since last month as a result of the Delta variant, which, to date, has seen more than 2.4 million cases.
Indonesia yesterday logged 37,124 fresh cases and 871 deaths, taking total fatalities to 64,631. – Bernama, July 10, 2021
