ROME – Italy has registered 219,441 new Covid-19 cases within the past 24 hours, marking the largest daily increase since the start of the outbreak, the national Health Ministry said as reported by Sputnik.

A day earlier, the nation confirmed 189,088 coronavirus cases.

The total number of Covid-19 cases recorded in Italy stood at some 7 million.

Like many other countries, Italy is now facing a new wave of the Covid-19 pandemic linked to the spread of the Omicron strain. – Bernama, January 7, 2022
