ROME – Italian far-right Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni congratulated Benjamin Netanyahu yesterday on a victory that sets him up to form what may be the most right-wing government in Israeli history.

“Congratulations-Mazel Tov to @netanyahu for the electoral success,” Meloni said on Twitter.

“Ready to strengthen our friendship and our bilateral relations, to better face our common challenges,” she added.

Former prime minister Netanyahu and his right-wing allies secured a clear victory and a majority in Parliament following elections two days ago, Israel’s electoral commission said yesterday.

Netanyahu, who has served as prime minister for longer than anyone in Israel’s 74-year history, will likely give prominent roles for the co-leaders of a far-right alliance called Religious Zionism.
