Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi has acknowledged the urgent need for road repairs and upgrades throughout the state, citing safety concerns for road users.
He affirmed the state government's commitment, with federal support, to addressing this issue and ensuring safer and more comfortable roads for the people of Johor.
In a Facebook post today, Onn Hafiz expressed hope that these efforts will positively impact traffic congestion, a long-standing challenge in Johor. He stressed the importance of careful planning and effective implementation to create a smoother and more organized traffic system.

The projects include the upgrading of the Pasir Gudang Highway (Phase 3), from the Perling interchange to the North-South Expressway ramp, expanding it from four lanes to six at a cost of RM301.5 million, with completion expected by June 2028.
The second project involves upgrading the Pasir Gudang Highway (Phase 2B), from the Bandar Seri Alam/Taman Rinting interchange to Pasir Gudang, expanding it from four lanes to six, at a cost of RM78 million, with completion targeted for February 2026.
The third project is the upgrading of Persiaran Tanjung Langsat Road, from the Sungai Kim Kim Bridge to the entrance of Tanjung Langsat Port, costing RM14 million.

Separately, the On Hafiz recently discussed his key priorities for the long-term success of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (SEZ), emphasising diversification, talent development, and infrastructure improvements.
He believes the SEZ's diverse industries, encompassing 11 sectors from manufacturing to digital economy, will provide a buffer against global trade tensions, particularly between the US and China.
A resilient workforce, equipped with proper training and education, will further enhance the SEZ's ability to weather these challenges.
Onn Hafiz highlighted Johor's focus on attracting investment, particularly in the data centre industry, where major players like Nvidia and Microsoft have already established a presence. He expressed confidence in the continued growth of this sector, citing strong international demand.
Addressing potential challenges, he acknowledged concerns about skilled labour shortages and congestion at land crossings.
In a recent interview with CNA, he said to attract and retain talent, Johor is focusing on increasing salary packages, with data centres offering competitive starting salaries for diploma and degree holders. The Johor Talent Development Council is collaborating with universities and training institutions to enhance local skills.
Connectivity improvements are also a priority. While the RTS Link, expected to be operational by the end of 2026, is seen as the long-term solution to ease Causeway congestion, the immediate focus is on expanding the use of the MyBorderPass QR-code clearance app to include car travellers, which is expected to significantly reduce congestion.
Onn Hafiz emphasised the attractive fiscal and non-fiscal incentives offered to investors, including reduced tax rates for high-value activities and knowledge workers. The new Invest Malaysia Facilitation Centre in Johor will serve as a one-stop shop for businesses interested in investing in the SEZ.
Recognising the potential for increased cost of living, the Menteri Besar stressed the state government's commitment to using investment proceeds to support Johoreans through affordable housing initiatives and access to basic necessities. With record net earnings in 2024, Johor aims to achieve 7% growth, a RM2.5 billion annual GDP, and an average household income of RM10,500 by 2030.
