MALAYSIA remains confident in its ability to sustain robust trade growth in 2025, projecting figures above the RM2 trillion mark, according to Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz.

Speaking after a luncheon celebrating the Golf KITA 2025 fundraising event, Tengku Zafrul cited continued economic expansion as the basis for this optimistic outlook.

He acknowledged potential global headwinds, including a possible slowdown in China's economy and the transition to a new US administration, but expressed confidence in Malaysia's economic trajectory.

"Even under potentially challenging global conditions, we anticipate maintaining positive trade growth," Tengku Zafrul told reporters.

He emphasised that while unforeseen circumstances could arise, the current economic indicators suggest a positive trajectory.

Malaysia's 2024 trade performance demonstrated significant strength, with total trade increasing by 9.2% to a record RM2.879 trillion.

This achievement marks the fourth consecutive year that Malaysia's total trade has surpassed the RM2 trillion threshold.

The Minister stated that maintaining this level is a key objective. "Our target is to maintain the RM2 trillion achieved last year," he affirmed, reiterating the expectation of continued economic growth.” – February 9, 2025
