DNB - Meta establish Joint Innovation Lab in Malaysia

DIGITAL Nasional Bhd (DNB), the operator of Malaysia's 5G network, has partnered with global technology giant Meta to establish a joint innovation lab in Malaysia.

This collaboration aims to drive advancements in real-time communications (RTC) services, specifically enhancing the quality of voice and video experiences on Meta’s social media and messaging platforms by leveraging 5G network capabilities.

Both parties are currently finalising the terms of the partnership, with the innovation lab set to focus on optimising network performance and developing cutting-edge technologies to improve RTC quality.

A key objective of the lab is to develop innovative solutions that optimise RTC quality and improve network optimisation techniques, which will reduce latency and increase bit rates for smoother communication.

“The lab will focus on providing seamless and high-quality voice and video connections for users, ensuring the best possible experience,” said Ken Tan, Chief Technology Officer at DNB.

He highlighted it would help drive innovation and deliver unparalleled service quality to mobile network operator customers and end-users.

"Through this partnership, we aim to push the boundaries of service quality while reinforcing our commitment to network excellence and continuous innovation focused on customer needs,” he said.

The announcement was made at the Pavilion Malaysia during the Mobile World Congress 2025, underscoring the strategic importance of this collaboration.

On the partnership, Vinod Samarawickrama, Global Programme Head at Meta, said: “This proposed collaboration with DNB enables us to significantly improve the quality of services on our platform.
