SAPURA Energy Berhad (SEB) has clinched a series of offshore support vessel (OSV) contracts in Malaysia and Thailand worth close to RM100 million, ensuring continued utilisation of several key vessels through the 2026 financial year.
In a statement, the oil and gas services company said the contracts include the charter of accommodation work barges and a geosurvey vessel, supporting offshore operations in East Malaysia and the Gulf of Thailand.
Among the notable awards is the leasing of two 200-man capacity accommodation work barges, KPV Redang and Sapura Duyong, for use in East Malaysia.
KPV Redang began its contract in February for a one-year period with an optional one-year extension, while Sapura Duyong commenced work in March under an eight-month contract, also with the possibility of a two-month extension.
Additionally, Sapura Aman, another 200-man capacity OSV, has been contracted for a 245-day charter with a Malaysian operator, with the option to extend for another 90 days.
Sapura Offshore Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of SEB, has also deployed Sapura 300, a 300-man capacity accommodation work barge, for a 30-day charter to support crew housing needs for Malaysian offshore projects.
In Thailand, SEB will provide geotechnical drilling services via its vessel Sapura Wira, which will support oil field development activities in the Rossukon field, located in the Gulf of Thailand.
SEB Chief Executive Officer of operations and maintenance division Nasri Mehat described the contract wins as a reflection of client confidence in the group’s capabilities.
“These contracts underscore the trust our clients place in Sapura Energy’s ability to deliver reliable offshore support services,” he said.
“In the 2025 financial year, we achieved 99 per cent operational uptime across our OSV fleet and maintained a flawless safety record, with zero incidents and zero lost time injuries (LTI).
“Many of our vessels have recorded zero LTIs for several consecutive years. This is a testament to our unwavering commitment to operational excellence and safety, and we intend to uphold this performance standard,” Nasri added.
The new contracts are expected to strengthen Sapura Energy’s regional presence in the offshore support segment, as the company continues efforts to optimise asset utilisation amid a gradual recovery in the oil and gas sector. - April 16, 2025
