THE Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) and Bursa Malaysia have confirmed they are investigating reports of unauthorised access and trading activities involving a number of online trading accounts, following alerts from several brokers on Thursday afternoon, April 24, 2025.
According to a joint statement issued by both regulators today, brokers had detected instances of failed client login attempts and suspected unauthorised transactions conducted via a limited number of client accounts.
In response, immediate steps were taken to minimise further risk. "All brokers have been advised to immediately alert clients to undertake passwords or login credentials reset to enhance the security of their accounts," the regulators said.
Additional measures are also being enforced to strengthen account security. "All brokers [are] to implement additional security measures to enhance authentication such as implementing multi-factor authentication and stricter password policies," the statement read.
Both the SC and Bursa Malaysia emphasised that they remain on high alert, working in close coordination with brokers to identify the root cause of the incident and to implement further safeguards if necessary.
"We wish to assure all investors that the integrity of Malaysia’s capital market remains intact," the regulators said, adding that the market will open as usual on Friday, 25 April 2025.
