NATIONAL oil and gas company Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) has rolled out a comprehensive transition programme to support employees impacted by a planned workforce reduction, as part of its strategic transformation to remain competitive in an evolving global energy landscape.
In a statement today, Petronas said the programme offers a range of support services including market-aligned separation packages, career coaching, job placement assistance, emotional and medical support, reskilling and upskilling opportunities, and financial planning guidance.
“The benefits will be tailored based on length of service, employee category and eligibility. All decisions are made with fairness, respect and professionalism,” it said.
The company has also established a Transition Council and a Human Capital Development Committee to oversee talent mapping and redeployment decisions through a structured platform.
Petronas added that it is working closely with the Department of Labour and the Industrial Relations Department under the Ministry of Human Resources to ensure full compliance with statutory requirements.
Additionally, it has partnered with the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) via the MyFutureJobs platform to identify job opportunities in other sectors for eligible affected staff.
Talks are also ongoing with government-linked companies (GLCs) to explore possible redeployment options.
For employees keen to pursue entrepreneurship, Petronas said they will have access to the Petronas Innovation Garage, which provides guidance and mentorship for business ownership.
On June 5, Petronas announced it would reduce its workforce by 10 percent as part of a company-wide restructuring effort aimed at cutting costs amid declining crude oil prices and continued market uncertainty impacting its profitability. - June 10, 2025
