CHINESE Premier Li Qiang has declared that China is steadily progressing towards achieving high-income country status, citing a robust demand for consumption and sustained economic growth.

Speaking at the opening of the 16th Annual Meeting of the New Champions—widely referred to as Summer Davos—in Tianjin on Wednesday, Li said:

“China is confident in and capable of maintaining rapid economic growth.”

He emphasised that the country is evolving into a “super-sized consumption powerhouse,” building on its already formidable industrial base as a global manufacturing hub.

Li also noted that China is willing to share its home-grown technologies and innovative applications with the global community, reinforcing its role in driving international cooperation and innovation.

“The Chinese government will continue to foster a first-class business environment that is market-oriented, law-based, and internationalised,” he added.

He stressed that China would “always keep the doors wide open” and warmly welcome foreign businesses to invest and expand their presence in the world’s second-largest consumption market. - June 25, 2025
