ARAU – The Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) plans to export harumanis mangoes to Europe in the next three to four years.

Its chairman, Datuk Mohd Fasiah Mohd Fakeh, said the export target are European countries that may not have mangoes.

“The potential of harumanis can be developed further.

“We need to move towards modernisation and look globally so that harumanis will be known and can be enjoyed everywhere in the world, similar to other fruits, such as apples,” he said.

He said this to reporters at the Perlis harumanis campaign programme at Kg Simpang Genti here recently.

Fasiah said harumanis showed more potential compared with the padi or rice industry, and in the future, farmers could switch to harumanis.

He said plans are also in the works to emulate the success of a special Fama body that aid in the export of frozen durians from Pahang and Perak at high prices to China and Europe. – Bernama, April 2, 2021
