KUALA LUMPUR – The tender for Kuala Lumpur International Airport’s automated people mover (APM) is at the final stage of the evaluation process, said Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB).
In a statement today, the airport operator said it has identified a final shortlist of APM bidders to replace its ageing aerotrains after completing a technical evaluation.
“The shortlisted bidders are being evaluated on their commercial offers.
“MAHB’s tender approach puts priority on first meeting its business objectives, as well as the project’s technical and performance requirements.”
It said all submissions were evaluated objectively and fairly according to the set requirements.
Unsuccessful bidders have been informed of their status, it said.
“All three aerotrains that are currently in operation at KLIA are due for replacement as they are approaching their end-of-life stage.
“Two aerotrains have been in service since the airport first opened in 1998, with the third train added in 2010.”
In 1998, KLIA’s Terminal 1 logged an annual traffic movement of 13 million passengers. In 2019, the figure ballooned to 29 million.
The tender is expected to be concluded over the next couple of months, and MAHB said it will make an announcement once a formal award is approved by its board. – Bernama, August 28, 2021
