KUALA LUMPUR – Former ProtectHealth Corp (PHC) chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Anas Alam Faizli said he declined to extend his contract with the Health Ministry (MoH)’s subsidiary as he was pursuing other interests.

Anas, whose contract with PHC ended last Saturday, told The Vibes that he had undertaken his duties as CEO until his contract lapsed on October 1.

“I’ve declined the contract extension offered from ProtectHealth to pursue other interests. I have served until my contract lapsed on October 1,” said Anas who was also asked whether his departure from PHC was due to a rift with Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, a speculation which the former dismissed.

Anas, on the other hand, said that he was confident that ProtectHealth would continue to be at the forefront of public-private partnerships in healthcare.

“ProtectHealth will deliver every task mandated by the MoH and remain a big part of any future plan of the ministry,” said Anas.

On September 30, Khairy took to social media to fill the top position in PHC.

According to Business Today, the minister posted a tweet on the handle @KKMPutrajaya, the official account of Malaysia’s MoH stating, “CEO position at subsidiary @Protecthealthco (PHC) will be vacant.

“Need a strong leader that will be able to steer PHC to its exciting next phase involving strategic purchasing of medical services and health financing.”

The minister’s post came soon after PHC published the job vacancy on its Twitter.

This post by PHC on September 30 has so far been deleted on Twitter. However, the offer for the CEO post is still visible on its website.

ProtectHealth Corp Sdn Bhd was established on December 19, 2016 as a wholly owned subsidiary of ProtectHealth Malaysia (PHM) under MoH.

As a not-for-profit company, ProtectHealth coordinates, administers, and manages initiatives related to the financing of health care services as entrusted by MoH.

Anas, who joined PHC as its CEO in October 2020, led the company in ensuring the Malaysian population was vaccinated against Covid-19 and transformed the company into a healthcare leader.

He has been known to be an innovative business leader in healthcare, asset facility management, oil and gas, and the energy industry with over 20 years of corporate experience with international exposure.

Prior to this he held a strategic stakeholder and industry engagement role with UEM Edgenta Bhd and led the highway maintenance operations of the North South Expressway. – The Vibes, October 6, 2022
