KUALA LUMPUR – The Inland Revenue Board will stop receiving payments made via posted cheques from January 1 next year.
In a statement today, IRB said from that date, tax payments can be made via its official website, banking portals, counters at IRB payment centres, counters of appointed banks, cheque or cash deposit machines or ATMs.
“However, this stoppage does not apply for Property Gains Tax, Public Entertainers Income Tax (Seniman Kembara), Witholding Tax and compounds,” the statement said.
The IRB said that no receipts will issued for e-payments or payments at appointed banks. Instead, taxpayers or their representatives must keep the payment slips for each transaction made.
“All bank confirmation slips or e-payment slips must be kept in good condition as proof of payment,” it said.
To avoid late payments, IRB advised taxpayers or their representatives to heed this new move and speed up mailing of cheques before January 1, 2021.
