MELAKA – The Melaka government will continue to be committed to programmes and campaigns to expand digital transactions among small and medium enterprises.
State Agriculture, Agro-based Industry and Rural Development Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman said this was in line with the government’s efforts towards transitioning to cashless payments in the community.
“There are developments that are very positive where the use of digital transactions are increasing in the state, including among traders at pasar malam and stalls,” he said.
“At the Melaka Agro Market (MAM) programme today, I saw on average (that digital transaction) being used since it makes things easier for traders and consumers,” he said.
He said this when met by reporters after he accompanied the Melaka Yang di-Pertua Tun Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam on a walkabout at the MAM and Direct Sales from Farms, organised by Malay and Islamic World’s economic bureau in collaboration with the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) in Bukit Katil, here today.
Meanwhile, he said the MAM programme is targeted to be expanded to 100 locations in the state with an implementation of at least once a year to reduce the people’s burden following the current increase in the price of goods.
“This MAM programme will be expanded in each parliamentary and state constituency in Melaka and is one of the state government’s initiatives to help the people face the challenges of the price increase of goods.
“The programme is managed by Melaka FAMA together with the state government,” he said.
He said the two-day MAM which began yesterday has attracted 40 traders selling various products as well as more than 2,000 visitors who did not want to miss the opportunity to buy their supply of eggs and cooking oil at special prices.
In another development, he also said the state government was actively trying to control wild boars that often damage crops.
“We have received many reports and are currently working with the Wildlife and National Parks Department as well as the Melaka Veterinary Services Department to catch the wild boars by laying traps.
“In many areas where we have seen many wild boars, we have even added the number of cage traps,” he added. – Bernama, January 29, 2023
