KUALA LUMPUR – The UMW Group recorded encouraging automotive sales for June 2023 with the registration of 31,222 vehicles as both UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) and UMW’s associate company, Perodua, continue to deliver their outstanding orders. The group’s automotive sales increased by 12% to 193,349 units for the first half of 2023, up from the 173,254 units registered in the same period of 2022.

UMWT registered 8,669 units in June 2023, 8% higher than the 8,004 units delivered in May 2023.  Year-to-date June 2023, UMWT registered 48,659 units, recording a 6% growth compared with the 45,911 units registered in the corresponding period of 2022.

The all-new Toyota Vios, which was launched in March this year, followed by the Corolla Cross and Hilux, were the top-selling models in the first half of 2023.

UMWT unveiled the all-new Toyota Innova Zenix on June 21, 2023, which has received encouraging orders. On top of the internal combustion engine offering, the model is also available as a hybrid electric vehicle, expanding its product offering into the electrified vehicle space.

It has also started taking orders for the all-new Toyota Alphard and Toyota Vellfire recently.

To further strengthen its order book, UMWT is offering special promotions for the purchase of selected Toyota models in July 2023.

Perodua registered 22,553 units in June 2023, 9% lower compared with the 24,699 units delivered in May 2023, as its manufacturing plant was closed for one week for the Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration.  Year-to-date June 2023, Perodua’s sales surged to 144,690 units, 14% higher than the 127,343 units delivered in the same period in 2022.

For the first half of 2023, Perodua’s top-selling models were the Bezza, followed by the Myvi and Axia.  The all-new Axia was launched on February 14, 2023. With an improving supply chain and sustained demand, Perodua expects both production and sales to continue their uptrend in the second half of 2023.

UMW Holdings Bhd president and group chief executive officer Datuk Ahmad Fuaad Kenali said, “We are pleased with the encouraging sales registered by both UMWT and Perodua in June 2023. For the first six months of 2023, both companies have also registered higher sales compared with the same period in 2022.

The introduction of competitive and exciting new models helped to drive sales in the first half of 2023.

We are confident that both companies will achieve their sales targets for 2023 based on the outstanding bookings.

We would like to thank our customers for their unwavering support of our products and services.” – Bernama, July 17, 2023
