ICONIC rock band Queen say they have found a previously unheard track with vocals recorded by the late great frontman Freddie Mercury, easily one of the greatest vocalists of all time.
Freddie died in 1991 after suffering complications from AIDS. The band’s plan to release the track means that he will likely hit the charts one more time.
Brian May and Roger Taylor, the two founding members of Queen who are still keeping the flame alive, discovered the song, dating it back to The Miracle recording sessions from 1989. Many of those tracks have gone unreleased.
They were interviewed by BBC Radio 2 during coverage of Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee celebrations, this past weekend.
“It was kind of hiding in plain sight. We looked at it many times and thought, 'Oh no, we can't really rescue that',” Brian said.
“But in fact, we went in there again and our wonderful engineering team went, 'Okay, we can do this and this'. It's like kind of stitching bits together.”
“It's beautiful. It's touching.”
“It's a very passionate piece,” Roger added.
With Adam Lambert, who has been the band’s frontman for the past decade, Queen performed at the Platinum Party at the Palace concert on Saturday evening. Their classic rock anthem We Will Rock You was also featured in a skit starring the Queen (the actual monarch) and Paddington Bear.
The band took to the stage, performing a collection of their iconic hits.
