Melaka police to begin ‘school visits’ from Thursday
The aim is not to scare, but to build trust and cooperation between the police, students and the school - October 20, 2025

MELAKA Police will begin conducting spot checks of schools starting this Thursday, in line with the government's move to ensure educational institutions are safe places.

Melaka Police Chief, Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the inspections will involve all government schools under the Ministry of Education  (KPM), Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) and the State Islamic Religious Department (JAIM) including day schools, religious schools and full boarding schools.

"This instruction is in line with the decision by the Cabinet which sees the presence of police personnel in schools as a safeguard that educational institutions are safe.

“We will visit all schools, regardless of whether the school is problematic or not.

"The aim is not to scare, but to build trust and cooperation between the police, students and the school," he said in Batu Berendam, Melaka.

He said religious schools were also included as these institutions also play an important role in shaping the character and moral values of the younger generation.

"The presence of the police is not solely to enforce the law, but to educate about personal safety and civic responsibility," he said.

Last Saturday, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution said the ministry would introduce a new security strategy in schools with the involvement of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).

According to him, the move was in line with the decision by the Cabinet which agreed that the presence of police in educational institutions should be a structured approach to address disciplinary issues, bullying and cyber security threats among students. – October 20, 2025
