THE Education Ministry (MoE) will introduce a comprehensive student character development initiative in 2026, utilising an integrated approach embedded within existing subjects.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the initiative does not involve introducing a new subject but will instead be incorporated into daily lessons to strengthen students’ moral values and character through practical application.

She said teachers would allocate sometime during lessons to carry out character-building activities that focus on practicing and internalising values in daily life.

“This is very important in shaping the character of our children. I hope space will be given to teachers and students to go through this new curriculum journey starting next year,” she told reporters after officiating the ‘Wacana Fikrah Siddiq Fadzil Seminar: Karamah Insaniyah – Pencetus Negara Bangsa’ discourse as reported by Bernama.

Fadhlina said that character formation will be implemented in a hands-on manner within the existing curriculum to enhance moral integrity and self-identity among students.

She said the approach aims to produce a generation that excels not only academically but also possesses emotional strength, self-discipline and strong social skills.

The initiative will first be implemented for preschool students next year before being expanded to Year One pupils and subsequently to higher levels, Fadhlina added.

She also said that special training and support would be provided to teachers to ensure effective implementation of the new curriculum, while also encouraging parents to support their children in adapting to the new approach. – November 2, 2025
