MIRI – Public schools in Miri and Sibu – both Covid-19 red zones – are opting to rotate classes to reduce the number of students and teachers in the buildings at any one time.
Standards 1 to 4 and Forms 1 to 3 students will have physical classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays, while Standards 5 and 6, and Forms 5 and 6, students will have theirs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
“This should reduce a large number of students and teachers in the schools at any one time,” said Sibu Disaster Management Committee coordinator Dr Annuar Rapaee, who is state assistant education minister.
“Those who do not have physical classes will have online lessons with their teachers. Hopefully, we can reduce the number of new Covid-19 cases through this system.”
The Miri Disaster Management Committee also encourages schools to carry out the rotation system.
All schools in Sarawak have reopened for classes today.
Some secondary schools in the state have opted to have one full week of physical classes, followed by one week of online lessons at home.
Due to the surge in Covid-19 cases, the reopening of schools has been repeatedly postponed in both districts since the beginning of the year.
The Education and Health Departments have drawn up strict standard operating procedures for schools.
These include the wearing of face masks, as well as practising physical distancing and personal hygiene, and will cover all teachers, staffers, students and parents. – The Vibes, April 5, 2021
