KUALA LUMPUR – Schools around the country will resume physical classes in stages starting September 1, said the Education Ministry today.
This means that schools will continue online classes until August 31.
The ministry said in a statement today that the decision was made after taking into consideration the current Covid-19 pandemic in the country as well as discussions with the Health Ministry (MoH) and National Security Council (NSC).
It added that the same ruling applies to all government schools, government-aided schools, private schools and educational institutions registered with the Education Ministry.
“However, MoE will continue to take into account the risk assessment by MoH and NSC to see if there is a need for changes to be made to the date (of school reopening).
“Any changes will be notified in advance. The MoE will inform details on the opening schools for in-person teaching and learning classes at least a week before school reopens,” it said.
The ministry said it is always working closely with the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) to ensure vaccination rates among teachers, administrators and support staff can be ramped up.
“As of July 16 (yesterday), a total of 253,366 teachers and administrators (61.30%) as well as 10,876 support staff (46.33%) had received at least one dose of the vaccine.”
On June 6, Education Minister Datuk Mohd Radzi Md Jidin said schools were directed to continue online learning until the mid-term break this month.
The mid-term break for Group A schools in Johor, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu is from July 16 to 24.
Meanwhile for Group B schools in Perlis, Penang, Perak, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Melaka, Pahang, Sabah, Sarawak, Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya, it is from July 17 to 25. – The Vibes, July 17, 2021
