AN alleged rape of a girl by her own father came to light during a school health screening recently, leading to the man being charged with two counts of rape at the Sessions Court in Muar today.

According to Berita Harian, the 49-year-old plantation worker pleaded not guilty after the charges were read before Judge Emelia Kaswati Mohamad Khalid.

He was charged with allegedly raping his daughter, who was 13 at the time, at a house in Tangkak on two separate occasions between 8 am and 9 am and between 9 pm and 10 pm in 2024 and January this year.

The charges were brought under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum prison sentence of 30 years and whipping upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Diyana Najihah Muhamed Fauzi appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was not represented.

The accused also sought bail, but the prosecution objected, telling the court that he remained in contact with the alleged victim.

The prosecution also raised concerns that he could abscond and stressed the need to ensure the victim’s safety.

After hearing both sides, the court rejected the bail application and fixed September 18 for further mention, including the handover of documents and appointment of a lawyer for the accused.

According to a police report, the girl alleged that the abuse began about two years ago, when she was 11.

She only came forward recently after the alleged abuse was uncovered during the health screening conducted at her school. – August 27, 2026
