Communications Ministry: RM5b allocated towards internet connectivity targeting Orang Asli villages
The communications allocation includes RM142 million for National Information Dissemination Centres - October 11, 2026

MALAYSIA will invest RM5 billion to strengthen internet connectivity, including extending 4G coverage to all Orang Asli villages and improving access along thousands of kilometres of roads and railway lines, under Budget 2027.

The investment, to be implemented through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) under the National Digital Network Plan (JENDELA), forms part of the government’s broader push to expand telecommunications infrastructure and improve digital access.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Communications on Sunday, the plan also covers internet accessibility along 7,000km of roads and 1,700km of railway lines, as well as the implementation of the MADANI Submarine Cable (SALAM) project.

Another RM1 billion has been allocated for the implementation of an Electronic Medical Records System at healthcare facilities nationwide.

On digital safety, the government will roll out the Safe Internet Campaign in all schools, focusing on cyberbullying and the exploitation of children.

The ministry said Budget 2027, themed “Reaching for the Sky, Rooted in the Earth”, also aimed to strengthen the national creative economy and improve the dissemination of government information.

A total of RM142 million will be channelled towards enhancing National Information Dissemination Centres (NADI), while more than RM130 million will support the local film, music and creative content industries.

The support includes incentives for local and international film and animation productions filmed in Malaysia, with additional incentives for works showcasing Malaysian culture and national identity.

From 2027, entertainment duty will be fully exempted for tickets to local films and theatre performances in the Federal Territories.

The government also aims to develop 20 new intellectual properties and take Malaysian characters to international markets.

The ministry said the measures were intended to strengthen connectivity, improve digital literacy and generate greater value from Malaysia’s creative industries.

Budget 2027 was tabled by Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in the Dewan Rakyat on Oct 9. - October 11, 2026
