KUALA LUMPUR – Today, many doctors wore black to signify their participation in or solidarity with the #HartalDoktorKontrak movement calling for job security and better prospects for medical personnel on contract.

Participants staged a walkout from their hospitals, with the protest done in a peaceful manner.

Yesterday, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah issued an eleventh-hour plea to medical practitioners, urging them against taking part in the demonstration.

He said doing so would put their patients’ lives – and their own jobs – at risk, and reminded them of the oath they took at the start of their career.

Doctors at Kuala Lumpur Hospital who participated in the protest will be under police probe for violating standard operating procedures set out under the Covid-19 lockdown.
