KUALA LUMPUR – The first day of this year’s final Dewan Rakyat sitting started out normal enough, but did not end up being business as usual.

The session was adjourned early, at 1pm, after it was made known that several Parliament staff had tested positive for Covid-19, the virus that has crippled the world.

The unprecedented motion was tabled by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law) Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan, who said the risk of infection will increase the longer MPs convene.

“The party whips have been informed of the matter. There will be no sitting in the evening today.

“The Health Ministry said being in enclosed spaces will further increase the risk of infection.”
