KUALA LUMPUR – The recently concluded Malaysia Open saw a clean sweep from the world number ones at the inaugural Super 1000 event held at Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil.

The annual badminton tournament, which has been held since 1937, was much more anticipated by badminton lovers around the world this year after it was upgraded from Super 750.

Malaysia Open is now part of the four Super 1000 events, including the All England, Indonesia Open, and China Open.

It offered a total of $1.25 million (RM5.42 million) in prize money.

Top-ranked players that claimed their first Super 1000 Malaysia Open title were Denmark’s men’s singles shuttler Viktor Axelsen, Japan’s women’s singles shuttler Akane Yamaguchi, Indonesia’s men’s doubles duo Fajar Alfian-Rian Ardianto, China’s women’s doubles duo Chen Qing Chen-Jia Yi Fan as well as their mixed doubles compatriots Zheng Si Wei-Huang Ya Qiong.
