THE Che Hoon Khor Moral Uplifting Society (MUS) Penang, kicked off its New Year on a compassionate note by donating a total of RM195,000 to 13 charitable organisations.
It also presented ang-pows to 2,000 senior citizens at its premises in Macalister Road and invited Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow to help perform the deed.
Among those present were the society president Datuk Sim Ah Chye and his deputy Datuk Tan Kim Oh, as well as former Penang Gerakan chairman Datuk Dr Teng Hock Nan.
Each of the 13 beneficiaries received RM15,000, while the 2,000 senior citizens, including those from four nursing homes, received an RM25 red packet.
The 13 beneficiaries were Eden Handicap Service Centre Bhd, Persatuan Rawatan Buah Pinggang Malaysia (Renal Care Association Malaysia), Persatuan Kesihatan Jiwa Pulau Pinang (The Mental Health Association of Penang), Persatuan Pemulihan Penyayang Orang Kurang Upaya Pulau Pinang, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Komuniti Cakna Pulau Pinang (Penang Community Centre), Kek Lok Si Charitable Hospital, Pertubuhan Rumah Kebajikan Seri Cahaya Pulau Pinang, The Penang Home for the Infirm and Aged, Penang Pure Lotus Society Hospice of Compassion, Persatuan Pengajian Sadhu Vaswani, Negeri Pulau Pinang, Asia Community Service, Children’s Protection Society and Persatuan Kebajikan Warga Emas Harmoni Pulau Pinang.
The four nursing homes were Silver Jubilee Home for the Aged, The Penang Home for the Infirm and Aged, Relau Rumah Charis Bhd, and Little Sisters of the Poor.
Sim said that Che Hoon Khor remains committed to serving as a beacon of hope and support for all, particularly the less fortunate.
“Today is a day of gratitude, giving, and celebration as we come together to uphold the values of compassion and generosity that lie at the heart of our society."
He quoted a Chinese proverb, reminding everyone that it is through the hard work and sacrifices of those before us that we enjoy today’s blessings.
Chow extended his appreciation to the Che Hoon Society for organising the event that has become a cherished tradition. - January 6, 2025.
