TOURISM Malaysia board deputy chairman Datuk Yeoh Soon Hin has called on airliners to find ways to lower the ticket costs between the peninsular and Sabah, Sarawak.

This would boost domestic tourism while also enhancing connectivity across the South China Sea, said Yeoh.

In the interests of the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 campaign, Yeoh hopes that airliners including regional carriers can consider more cost competitive fares.

He said this after launching the domestic "Cuti-Cuti Malaysia" campaign at the Gurney Paragon Mall in Penang.

The campaign was jointly organised by English daily - The Star and Tourism Malaysia and is aimed at promoting localised travel.

Yeoh wants Malaysians to explore all domestic destinations first, as it can help generate a better understanding of the country, while also boosting the macro-economy.

"Before we can talk of the success of tourism, we need to discover the domestic destinations first, so we can promote it to foreign visitors," said Yeoh.

Among those present were the Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) vice-president Datuk Khoo Boo Lim. - November 2, 2025.
