According to Unicef data, the first baby of the year 2021 will be born in Fiji. In France, the number of births expected on this first day of the year is estimated at 1,876, or 0.5% of the total number expected on this date in the world.

The highest number of new arrivals in the world is expected in India, with about 59,995 births, followed by China (35,615) and Nigeria (21,439).

These (non-exhaustive) estimates were made in 236 countries and territories, depending on the availability of statistical data compiled and disseminated by regional or national government agencies.

On the first day of the year 2020, Unicef had estimated the number of children born worldwide at more than 392,000, more than those expected for 2021.

Just as people born on January 1 are nicknamed "New Year's babies", another phenomenon is also making headlines: the "New Year's Eve effect".

This term refers to babies conceived during the holiday season, usually born between late September and early October, a period that usually sees higher peaks in births than the rest of the year. - ETX Studio, January 1, 2021
