REVERSE Cancer Day is celebrated on April 2, the reverse of World Cancer Day, which falls on February 4.

Last year, 30,000 Malaysians lost their lives to cancer. Cancer Research Malaysia (CRMY) believe research can change that, they said in a statement.

CRMY is the only non-profit organisation in Malaysia saving lives through cancer research in Asians. It has launched its ‘Run For Our Lives’ virtual run in conjunction with Reverse Cancer Day (RCD).

“Every day, someone we know might be affected by cancer, or we may lose a family member or friend due to cancer. Because of the research done yesterday, more cancer patients will survive cancer today,” said Janet Yap, CRMY’s chief executive officer.

A landmark initiative by CRMY, the ‘Run For Our Lives’ virtual run aims to raise funds for ongoing research efforts that could improve cancer outcomes, especially among Asians.

The campaign holds that future generations could live in a world where cancer can be affordably controlled and no longer feared, through impactful cancer research.

“CRMY is leading studies on how Asian genetics influence our risk to disease and our response to treatment. We are working with global teams to find better ways to prevent and cure cancers that are common in Asians. And our patient-oriented solutions are already improving outcomes for low-income women,” said Yap.

In its fourth year, RCD has had a single mission – to increase knowledge and support for Asian-focused research that will aid cancer prevention, detection, and treatment, which will lead to better cancer survivorship in the long run.

CRMY will also announce a series of fun, yet easy-to-follow social media challenges leading up to the virtual run. If you would like to support the Run for Our Lives campaign, visit Run For Our Lives – Virtual Run and register for the event.
