THE iconic Coliseum Café in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman in Kuala Lumpur, open since 1921, is closing down.
The reason to shutter the historic restaurant came about after the tenancy of the café in a pre-war building next to the Coliseum Cinema expired, according to Says.
"Yes, it's closed for good," its marketing manager Azrain Azman said.
The Coliseum Café’s 100th anniversary was planned for this year.
"We are saddened that we couldn't celebrate our 100th anniversary. We hadn't been able to sustain since the first movement control order (MCO).
“We relied on dine-ins and the regulars who used to visit the café couldn't come because the city was in lockdown," Azrain told the Malaysian Insight.
Other Coliseum Cafe outlets remain open.
In February this year, the KL outlet was featured by Prestige Malaysia in its list of eight oldest restaurants in Asia that are at least 100 years old.
