THE inaugural Malaysia Airlines flight between Kuala Lumpur (KUL) and Doha (DOH) took off yesterday. The airlines celebrated with a send-off event held at KL International Airport.
Present was Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAB) group chief operations officer Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi. He was joined by senior officials from MAB and Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB).
They were on hand to greet and send off the passengers departing on MH160 bound for Doha at 9.20pm local time.
Ahmad Luqman said: “Today marks another milestone for the national airline as we commence our new daily service from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Doha, Qatar.
"We are delighted to introduce this new service, which is our third direct flight to the Middle East after Jeddah and Madinah, further providing greater convenience to customers and widening our global footprint for seamless connectivity."
He added that the airlines recorded a healthy load factor for the inaugural flights. The MH160 and MH161 flights saw 80% of passengers booking.
"Through our existing partnership with Qatar Airways and the commencement of this new service to Doha, passengers will also gain access to 96 codeshare destinations via the two strategic hubs, allowing for a more seamless travel experience," said Ahmad Luqman.
"This will also further boost the recovery of the sector as we work towards achieving 70% of our pre-Covid-19 capacity by the end of the year.”
A cultural dance performance was held at the boarding lounge and passengers received special goodies.
The A330-300 will operate the once-daily service via MH160/161 with 290 seats comprising 27 seats in Business Class and 247 seats in Economy Class. – The Vibes, May 26, 2022
