MUAR – Remembering his civic duty to vote as a Malaysian, a voter spent RM40,000 to return to his hometown in Johor for the today's 15th general election (GE15).
Datuk Radzi Mansor, 40, a CEO of a travel agency in Saudi Arabia, returned to his home on Jalan Ibrahim, from Saudi Arabia with his father Mansor Salim, 76, on October 30.
"I am glad that I was able to come back to elect a Member of Parliament for Muar, and my return with my father was also to visit my family," he said.
"What is wrong with spending money to fulfil my responsibilities as a citizen? After all, general elections are held only every five years," he told reporters when met after casting his ballot at the Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sri Muar polling centre.
His father and sister, Nor Hafiza, also voted at the school.
Radzi, who has been residing in Saudi Arabia for 14 years, said he and his father would return there on Tuesday.
Radzi, who is also a hotel operator in Mecca, hopes that the leaders elected by the people, especially the residents of Muar, can serve with sincerity and develop this area to be on par with cities around the world.
Three candidates are in the fray for the Muar parliamentary seat, namely Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (PH-Muda), Helmy Abdul Latif (Barisan Nasional) and Abdullah Husin (Perikatan Nasional). – Bernama, November 19, 2022
