MUSIC superstars Adele and Ed Sheeran – who are also of course, very British – are both apparently too busy to perform for King Charles III at his upcoming coronation concert on May 7, the day after he is crowned at Westminster Abbey.
The UK’s Mail on Sunday said the pair were asked to perform by organisers at the behest of the monarch.
A source with the project said: "The King has suggested a number of people he would like to perform and Adele and Ed were on that list. He was very keen that they were part of the concert.
“There is a team set up to get the talent signed up so they approached the two of them, but got replies saying that they were unavailable, which was a massive disappointment.
“They are titans of the showbiz industry and are quintessentially British but also known across the globe. It's such a shame.”
Sheeran is currently scheduled to appear at a show in Texas the day before the Coronation Concert. Despite the distance between the UK and the southern US state, insiders believe a nine-hour flight by private jet would be possible.
Sheeran had performed his hit ‘Perfect’ at the close of last June’s Queen's Platinum Jubilee Pageant, celebrating the reign of the previous monarch, Elizabeth II.
Adele, on the other hand, has no publicly listed events on or around the date of the coronation.
Harry Styles is another artist the King would like to have perform, though his availability is still not yet known.
On the positive side of things, Lionel Richie is believed to be close to agreeing, with the Spice Girls also likely to perform.
The coronation concert will be shown by the BBC. Several thousand pairs of tickets will be made available to the public via a ballot.
An anthem from legendary composer Andrew Lloyd Webber is one of 12 new pieces of music commissioned by the King for the coronation.
Charles has personally chosen the musical programme for the May 6 ceremony at Westminster Abbey, which intends to showcase a range of musical talent from around the UK and the Commonwealth.
