THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today said it has frozen 41 bank accounts belonging to Aman Palestin Sdn Bhd.

The commission said in a statement this was due to alleged irregularities in its funding activities amounting to RM15.87 million.

“MACC also searched all Aman Palestin premises for financial and operational management documents for the last five years,” read the statement.

MACC has also since recorded statements from several key witnesses and initial investigations have identified several issues involving the misappropriation of funds estimated at RM70 million channelled for purposes not related to the organisation’s objectives.

Investigations, which began on October 17, are being conducted under the MACC Act 2009, the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (Amla), and the Penal Code.

Aman Palestin was set up in 2004 to channel humanitarian efforts and collect funds for Palestinians affected by the Israeli occupation.

It was reported earlier that Perlis mufti Datuk Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin had asked the state Islamic religious department to bar Aman Palestin from collecting donations

He was concerned about the collection and distribution of funds, calling for more transparency on the matter after which the department stopped the NGO from collecting funds. – The Vibes, November 23, 2023.
