TAN SRI Muhyiddin Yassin will not defend his position as president of Bersatu in the party’s upcoming election.

The former prime minister announced this is his policy speech at Bersatu’s annual general meeting at the Ideal Convention Centre in Shah Alam today.

He said he had reached the decision to give space to other leaders to take over the party based on the democratic process.

Muhyiddin, who is also the chairman of Perikatan Nasional (PN), also suggested the senior leadership of the party hold a meeting to identify figures who are worthy to continue the struggle of Bersatu.

He said the move was important to ensure the party’s strengths could be harnessed more accurately in the future.

“I would like to take this opportunity to apologise to the leadership and party members if I have committed any mistakes or mistakes during my time leading the party,” he said.

Muhyiddin also called on leaders who will be elected later to take care of the party as well as possible.

Muhyiddin co-founded Bersatu in August 2016. He soon became the president, while Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad acted as its chairman in the early years.
