HEALTH Director-General Dr Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan said the Paxlovid antiviral drug was effective against Covid-19, including its new variant.

He said the antiviral treatment improved Covid-19 symptoms and prevented them from worsening.

Radzi said high-risk Covid-19 patients (those aged 60 or above with low immunity levels, those with comorbidities or obesity), would be recommended for Paxlovid treatment.

“Paxlovid is effective if taken within five days of the onset of symptoms. As such, high-risk patients are advised to be tested the moment they develop symptoms.

“If positive, please get an early medical evaluation at a nearby healthcare facility to determine whether you can take Paxlovid,” he said in a statement today. – Bernama, December 13, 2023.
