FORMER Finance Minister, Tun Daim Zainuddin said he was expected to be charged on Monday (Jan 29) and was looking forward to his day in court.

"My lawyers have since been informed that I will be charged on Monday for an offence under Section 36(2) of the  Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, which is an offence on the disclosure of assets.

“So be it. I look forward to my day in court,” he said in a statement today.

On Wednesday, MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said they had obtained permission from the Attorney General's Chambers to prosecute the 85-year-old businessman who was recently discharged from hospital.

On Tuesday, Daim's wife, Toh Puan Na'imah Khalid,67, was charged under the same section.

The 66-year-old pleaded not guilty to the charge, which carries a maximum five-year jail term and a fine of RM100,000 if convicted.

The court set RM250,000 bail with one surety and ordered her to surrender her passport until the disposal of the case. - The Vibes, January 27, 2024
