FIREMEN rescued 41 people who went camping in Bukit Goram in Kapit district in central Sarawak and were later trapped due to an overflowing river along the site where they had set up camp.

The incident happened at about 8 pm yesterday.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department today confirmed that all 41 campers including 21 youngsters have been rescued.

"They were from Bintulu town and had gone camping since Saturday.

"Last night they were caught by rising waters and they called us for help after their campsite was flooded.

"Our rescue unit from Kapit safely brought them out of the flooded area to safe ground," the department said.
